Scandinavian Health Ltd. (SHL), a Taoyuan, Taiwan-based medical device company, announced this week that it had received the distinguished 'red dot' award for product design for its Precision Pen Injector (PPI).

The red dot is an annual award given by an international jury of renowned design experts after examining and testing products according to criteria such as degree of innovation, functionality, ergonomics, longevity, ecological compatibility and clarity of function. SHL's product emerged as a winner from a group of over 3,200 entries from 49 countries, and will be displayed in the red dot museum in Essen, Germany.

SHL's Jochen Ratjen, Chief Industrial Designer for the PPI project, said, "As a company, we have been excited about the mechanical and aesthetical design of this product. We were confident that this would be recognized at some stage and are delighted it came so early and from such a prestigious design competition."

The PPI is designed to deliver small but highly accurate doses of medicine, and is currently being used by Swedish biomedical firm Q-Med AB to deliver Restylane Vital Light, its treatment for rejuvenating delicate skin.
